I received great insight from the essay “Admittance to a better life”. Michael Oatman shines a spotlight of his life as an African-American man. Given the history of African Americans socio-political environment, he had to struggle to live the life he wanted by choosing the best way out. Being a male, especially, posed a challenge to achieving that goal, but he knew education was the powerful equalizer. I was not surprised by his story because I have witnessed the trouble black men go through in America particularly with law enforcers. You are guilty of a crime just by being black. This essay made me anxious to change the views of Americans.
